Gordon of Khartoum

Gordon of Khartoum, also known as "Chinese" Gordon, was a British army officer and administrator who played a significant role in the history of the Sudan. Renowned for his military prowess and unwavering principles, he became a legendary figure during the Siege of Khartoum in 1884-1885, where he led the defence of the city against the forces of the Mahdi, a religious leader who had launched a successful revolt against the Egyptian government. Despite his heroic efforts, Gordon was ultimately killed during the fall of Khartoum, cementing his place in history as a martyr and a symbol of British imperial ambition in the region.
